I have been having too much fun with shooting at night, so that has been my primary shooting preference of late when I shoot from the water.
While it a LOT of fun, it is still a learning experience every time. If your settings are off just a little, it can make for a long editing session afterwards and looking at “What could have been”.
In this session, my focus point was off by a hair, but it did create some really cool speed blur effects on some of the waves….
The waves were really tiny with the occasional decent size wave which actually beats me up a lot more since I am on the ground trying to get into the barrel and just thrown back to shore.
Hope you enjoy the shots…
Gear used: Canon 7D camera body, Canon 8-15 F/4 L Fisheye, Canon Speedlight 580 exII flash, SPL waterhousings for both camera and flash.
Deep inside this one...I didn't get my camera around fast enough...
This one will be avaliable in the Sunset Gallery
On some shots...the motion blur can look really cool...
A nice textured blanket at sunset....
I thought this little sequence was nice...
This is one of those waves, where I am on my knees trying to get the shot, and even a 1 foot wave can dump you over....
I really liked this shot...The left side is really blurry because it is under water...but on the right, you get that motion blur and great backlit coloring...
Ah, cloudy sunsets...
I have more shots where I don't have my camera angled correctly shooting with the flash then ever...
My favorite shot from this night, this was featured on SPL's instagram feed. Shot is available in the Featured section for print
Caught a local body boarder in the waves...
Surprised by the flash....
This shot more than most you can see where I missed my focus point..
Hope you are enjoying these flash shots.... Let me know in the comments section on what you think....
