Last week was a very good week. I was able to get in the water three times. All three days the waves were good. All three days the sun was out…and all three days I came away with hundreds of shots.
This is not to say though that each day was perfect though. Since summer has finally hit La Jolla, and the water temp has been very tolerable (mid to upper 60’s), I have been going out in board shorts and 1.5mm top. It has been fine except on Thursday and Saturday when I was out.
Let’s start on Thursday. I did some water portraits and when I was done, I decided to just stay and get some waves as well. With about an hour to go, I started feeling a lot of stinging and tingling up and down my exposed legs…I thought it was just irritation from some seaweed that got wrapped around me, but after showing them to the life guard, it turns out they were jellyfish stings…So I had that going for me… I had to deal with that until about 9:30 that night….
When I went out on Saturday towards the end of my time in the water, I was trying to do some under water stuff and was not watching what I was doing…I ended up getting thrown by a wave…which is not out of the norm…however, when I landed, I landed right on my knee. Also not a big deal, but it was at low tide and there were a lot of exposed sea shells on the ocean floor. Thus, I cut my knee all to hell. Luckily nothing got stuck in my knee for how hard I hit…
Moral of the story…Water photography hurts some time…but when you get back to your car and start looking through what you have just taken…all that pain goes away… And you can’t wait to get back out there..
Here are a few that I came away with from last week…Hope you enjoy.
